On Monday, Barcelona announced to reach an agreement with centre-back Samuel Umtiti, extending his contract until 2026. Two weeks ago, Barca signed Ferran Torres from Manchester City in a €55 million. However, they have to cut their wage bill in order to register him. Philippe Coutinho was loaned to Aston Villa last week, but is not enough to inscribe Torres.
How much does Samuel Umtiti earn now?
Umtiti has agreed to cut his salary by 10% and stretch out the money he would have received in the 18 months of his previous deal over the next four-and-a-half years, and his short-term earnings are significantly lower than they would have been. In June, the French defender signed a contract with Barca, earning €5.5 million per year. The previous contract will expire in 2023. Even extension, Barca also can terminate it in 2023.
Barcelona want to offload Umtiti and the player himself is believed to be keen to leave as well. But main stumbling block was his wages which did sit at close to the £200,000-a-week mark. No teams wanted to pay that. Umtiti has played just 90 minutes of football this season.
