Messi, as the Barcelona legend, his summer departure irritable fans. The Blaugrana president puts future plans in place, intending to move on from the disappointment.
The Liga giants could not offer a lucrative contract to Messi. Barcelona president Joan Laporta adimitted that he hoped that legend would stay and play for free.
A stunning summer saga at Camp Nou resulted in the six-time Ballon d’Or winner leaving Barcelona and move to Paris Saint-Germain as a free agent.
Both sides had already agreed on a new deal. However, financial mismanagement in Catalunya and La Liga salary caps meant that they could not sign the paperwork and Barcelona had to bid farewell to their legend.
Discussing Messi’s exit with RAC1, Laporta said: “With Messi I do not get angry because I appreciate him. I know he had a huge desire to stay, but also a lot of pressure because of the offer he had.
“Everything indicates that PSG had sent the offer and he had a very powerful offer. We knew that they had a very good offer.
” I have no time for going backwards. I think what I doing is the best for Barca to prevent the institution into the risk.
“I did hope that at the last minute Messi would say that he would play for free. I would have liked that and he would have convinced me. I understand that the league would have accepted it. But we cannot ask that of a player of his level.”
