Mingueza meets Dynamo Kiev again in Champions League

Mingueza will meet again this Wednesday the rival that brings him the best memory, Dynamo Kiev. The Barça defender made his debut in November 2020 with the Barcelona shirt in the Champions League against the Ukrainian team. 11 months later, the youth squad is a consolidated defender in the First Division and that is part of Koeman’s plans.
He had been in the Barça team for 14 years climbing in all categories and without making too much noise when Ronald Koeman gave him the opportunity to dress short and clung to it. He did not have an easy role, as he played for the injured Piqué. He formed in the axis of the rear with Lenglet.
Curiously, he ended the game in Kiev as the Barça player who had recovered the most balls and, in attack, he participated in the second goal for the Catalans, from Braithwaite, combing the ball at the exit of a corner. At the end of the meeting, the Catalan recognized that he had fulfilled a dream after more than a month and a half working with the first team.
But his good performance in that Champions League match earned him the trust of the Dutch coach. Mingueza began to be a fixture in the Barcelona line-ups also in LaLiga. Five days after the meeting in Kiev, he was a starter for the first time in the regular championship against Osasuna and would no longer cease to have a leading role in the first team.
His versatility, he can play central and winger, led him to complete a dream year. He played 39 games under Koeman across all competitions, 32 of which were as a starter.
His good time with Barcelona led him to the Olympic Games this past summer where Spain won silver, but the Catalan was injured. Precisely that ailment forced him to miss the start of the season. It was not until the third day that he was fully recovered. Since then he has had a leading role, although he has only started three games. It’s one of Koeman’s recurring changes.
Mingueza, therefore, will face a special rival in his career this Wednesday. Dynamo Kiev was the starting gun for his career in the elite. Only 11 months have passed since that meeting, but the Catalan already has a place in Barcelona.
