Who won 2021 Ballon d’Or? Messi broke record again

The 2021 Ballon d’Or ceremony was held on Tuesday (Monday night), November 29, organized by France Football where the best men’s and women’s player was adjudged. Lionel Messi won his seventh Ballon d’Or, beating his challengers Bayern Munich’s Robert Lewandowski and making an incredible records. He is the football player who has won the most  Ballon d’Or trophies.
Messi retained last Ballon d’Or award in 2019. The following edition was canceled by France Footbal due to COVID-19 pandemic. Before that, Lewandowski was widely considered as the likely winner. In July, Messi won the Copa America with Argentina, his major international trophy. Despite one of his less impressive periods at club level, Messi was the favourite winner of Ballon d’Or this year. In this summer, Messi joined in Paris St.-Germain, leaving Barcelona, the club where he was considered spent his whole career.
“It’s incredible to be here again,” Messi said. “Two years ago I thought it was the last time. Winning the Copa América was the key.”
Lewandowski picked up the newly formed Striker of the Year award and Barcelona captain Alexia Putellas won the Women’s Ballon d’Or. Gianluigi Donnarumma won Yashin Trophy of best goalkeeper.
