Inter Milan won Super Cup 2022.The 2021/2022 Italian Super Cup season took place in the early hours of this morning BST, with last season’s Serie A champions Inter Milan hosting their old rivals Juventus in the Italian national derby. Although many fans thought before the match that this Italian national derby might not be as exciting as before, given the overall strength of the two teams and their league performance this season. However, the two teams put on a great showdown for the fans in today’s match. Inter Milan won their sixth Italian Super Cup in their history with a 2-1 victory over Juventus thanks to a 120th minute winner from Alexis Sanchez in extra time.
After holding off Inter’s early triumphs, Juventus began to threaten Inter around the 20th minute and managed to break the deadlock in the 25th minute. Juventus took the lead in the Derby d’Italia in the 25th minute, 1-0, after Alvaro Morata took the ball from the left side of the field and crossed it into the box for Weston McKennie, who headed the ball into the path of Inter captain Samir Handanovic.
The excitement of the Juve players did not last long, however, as in the 34th minute, Dzeko got forward and received a direct ball from Perisic, causing a foul on Juve’s De Sciglio, and this time the referee finally chose to impose a capital punishment on Juventus. Inter’s Argentine striker, Lautaro Martinez, scored with a penalty to bring Inter back to level at 1-1.
Inter continued to dominate the field in the following game, but in the face of Juve’s stubborn defence, Inter were unable to break through again in the 90 minutes. In these circumstances, the game had to go into extra time. In the first 29 minutes of extra time, Juve manager Massimiliano Allegri may have been happy with the success of his tactics, even planning his line-up for the penalty shoot-out in advance. But in the 120th minute, Alexis Sanchez’s stunning goal disrupted Allegri’s plans. After scoring, Sanchez chose to express his feelings by stripping off his shirt in celebration despite the risk of receiving a yellow card. Yes, before that goal, Sanchez, who had been having a rough time in recent seasons, had really been depressed for too long.
