The draw for the 2022 World Cup took place in Doha, Qatar, as the group stage for the 32 nations is announced. 29 teams have been confirmed as wo intercontinental play-off matches will take place in June.
Drawn into Group C, Argentina start as strong candidates to advance given Mexico, Poland and Saudi Arabia are their opponents. After winning the Copa America, Argentina head into Qatar 2022, hoping to add to their two triumphs.
Will Messi win the 2022 World Cup?
Lionel Messi has competed at four World Cups so far in his career. He was so closed to World Cup in 2014, while Argentina lost out to Germany in the final by a late, added-time winner from Mario Gotze. Since 1986 when Argentina won their last World Cup, Messi is expected to play an integral part in Qatar.
Argentina are drawn into Group C, starting as strong candidates to advance given Mexico, Poland and Saudi Arabia are their opponents. Given their talent and world-class play Messi, Argentina should emerge as group winners.
If they qualify for the knockout round as group winners, they would face the runners-up of Group D which features France and Denmark.
If they come through the last 16 round, they would receive a manageable quarterfinal draw. This time it would be the winners of Group A versus the runners-up from Group B. Most likely Group A winner would be Netherlands.
If Argentina win there, they would most likely face the winner of Spain/Germany or Brazil in the semifinals, which would certainly be an incredible prospect.
They could then face any of England, Portugal, France or Belgium in the final (if they all win their expected games)
Except 2010, Messi has already socred six goals and provided five assists in 19 appearances, and hopes to add to that record in Qatar.
